Five House Design Mistakes to Avoid – December 9th, 2014

Every house is viewed by a homeowner in a different way. What seems to be a perfect house design may not be acceptable to others. Because of that, plans should be designed based on how the house will be used for. To make sure the house meets the needs of the entire family, some design mistakes should be avoided. Here’s the list of the common house mistakes to know and to avoid:

Too big distance between garage and your kitchen

The secret is to make it simple. Create a garage layout just close to your kitchen. Walking several meters away from the garage to the kitchen is not helpful to homeowners. Your main concern is that it’s difficult to transfer right away your groceries and other stuffs from the car to your kitchen. To make things more comfortable to everyone, make your kitchen and your garage closer to each other.

Avoid over-furnishing your room

It does not really require much for a small room to be a dumping area of collected accessories and furniture. So allow your furnishings to fill your space just enough to make it functional and appealing. Sufficient space should be maintained in your room for easy flow and movement. Your room space is not meant to be a cramped room. However, if it looks overcrowded, you can remove or move some furniture. Match the space with the right amount of furnishings.

Don’t squeeze something that does not fit

Make sure that the furniture you have fits the area. Furniture that is too small is not the right fit to the room, making it awkward to look at. On the other hand, a room with too large furniture will only look hampered and unbalanced. Therefore, before purchasing or moving your furniture, measure both the room and the stuff you will put in. Forgetting to do it can be a costly house design mistake that gives you regrets.

Don’t use poor lighting; allow natural light to pass through

Perfect lighting is the secret to having a great house design. Natural illumination is not only cost-effective but also welcoming to the people. So allow your space to have natural lighting to come as much as you can. Don’t let curtains and other accessories block the entrance of the natural light. You need to have a good source of outdoor illumination for your room and space. To improve lighting, especially at night, add proportioned-size lighting and lamps indoors. Make the light bright enough to get the most of its function.

Budget matters so don’t underestimate it

Don’t always be in a hurry and don’t buy everything immediately. Don’t overspend by going beyond your allotted budget. Buy what is needed today, not what you can afford to buy tomorrow. Stick to your budget. It’s best to set up your house design slowly at first, but making it progressive until it’s complete.

You may not need an expert to think of a right home design for you. The basics are, most of the time, what you need in improving your home. Learning some drawbacks will get you away from all regrets and waste of money.
